 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!

For His mercy endures forever.
Oh, give thanks to the God of gods!
For His mercy endures forever.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords!
For His mercy endures forever:

To Him who alone does great wonders,
For His mercy endures forever;
To Him who by wisdom made the heavens,
For His mercy endures forever;
To Him who laid out the earth above the waters,
For His mercy endures forever;
To Him who made great lights,
For His mercy endures forever—
The sun to rule by day,
For His mercy endures forever;
The moon and stars to rule by night,
For His mercy endures forever.

To Him who struck Egypt in their firstborn,
For His mercy endures forever;
And brought out Israel from among them,
For His mercy endures forever;
With a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm,
For His mercy endures forever;
To Him who divided the Red Sea in two,
For His mercy endures forever;
And made Israel pass through the midst of it,
For His mercy endures forever;
But overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea,
For His mercy endures forever;
To Him who led His people through the wilderness,
For His mercy endures forever;
To Him who struck down great kings,
For His mercy endures forever;
And slew famous kings,
For His mercy endures forever—
Sihon king of the Amorites,
For His mercy endures forever;
And Og king of Bashan,
For His mercy endures forever—
And gave their land as a heritage,
For His mercy endures forever;
A heritage to Israel His servant,
For His mercy endures forever.

Who remembered us in our lowly state,
For His mercy endures forever;
And rescued us from our enemies,
For His mercy endures forever;
Who gives food to all flesh,
For His mercy endures forever.

Oh, give thanks to the God of heaven!
For His mercy endures forever.

 Be glad, O children of Zion,

and rejoice in the LORD your God,

for He has given you the autumn rains

for your vindication.

He sends you showers,

both autumn and spring rains, as before.

The threshing floors will be full of grain,

and the vats will overflow with new wine and oil.

I will repay you for the years eaten by locusts—

the swarming locust, the young locust,

the destroying locust, and the devouring locustf

My great army that I sent against you.

You will have plenty to eat,

until you are satisfied.

You will praise the name of the LORD your God,

who has worked wonders for you.

My people will never again

be put to shame.

Then you will know that I am present in Israel

and that I am the LORD your God,

and there is no other.

My people will never again

be put to shame.

 The Law of the LORD is perfect,

reviving the soul;

the testimony of the LORD is trustworthy,

making wise the simple.

The precepts of the LORD are right,

bringing joy to the heart;

the commandments of the LORD are radiant,

giving light to the eyes.

The fear of the LORD is pure,

enduring forever;

the judgments of the LORD are true,

being altogether righteous.

They are more precious than gold,

than much pure gold;

they are sweeter than honey,

than honey from the comb.

By them indeed Your servant is warned;

in keeping them is great reward.

Who can discern his own errors?

Cleanse me from my hidden faults.

Keep Your servant also from willful sins;

may they not rule over me.

Then I will be blameless

and cleansed of great transgression.

May the words of my mouth

and the meditation of my heart

be pleasing in Your sight,

O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Blessed is the man

who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,

or set foot on the path of sinners,

or sit in the seat of mockers.

But his delight is in the Law of the LORD,

and on His law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree planted by streams of water,

yielding its fruit in season,

whose leaf does not wither,

and who prospers in all he does.

Not so the wicked!

For they are like chaff driven off by the wind.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,

nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the LORD guards the path of the righteous,

but the way of the wicked will perish.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

For whoever wants to save their life f will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?

For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.

But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. Proverbs 27:1

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make a profit.” You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your proud intentions. All such boasting is evil. Anyone, then, who knows the right thing to do, yet fails to do it, is guilty of sin. James 4:13-17

 Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10

Here's share an excerpt from sermon notes of Hugh S. Carpenter, D. D., which explains today's scripture nicely, though a bit dramatically.

Go out of your cares, and your fevers and perils, by going nearer to your Saviour. Catch that glance of His gaze, the very rest of God. The sky is blue above the bleak and barren ground; the heavens smile above the storms. All things seem to die; but God is over all, blessed forever. His joy will comfort your sorrows. It will conquer your fears. It will neutralise your bereavements. It will negative your death. You are on a vessel, and it seems to you that the storm is awful; the waves run mountains high; the ship pitches, and shudders, and creaks. "Captain," you say, with pale face and staring eyes, "this is a terrible peril We shall go down; she never will weather this gale!" "Gale!" says the captain, "I call this a good breeze. If we had a little more of it we should soon make land." Then you turn and look with wonder in the captain's eyes; they are full of smiling satisfaction, and his heroic face is mild and calm. The captain says, "All is well." He is not disturbed. And the captain's calm is your strength. He ought to know. So Jesus knows.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5

There is no shame in admitting that we lack wisdom, especially to God. After all the wisest king ever lived - King Solomon - even he asked God for wisdom.

Therefore give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people and to discern between good and evil. For who is able to govern this great people of Yours?" 1 Kings 3:9

My favorite King David too acknowledged the wisdom he received from God Almighty:

Surely You desire truth in the inmost being; You teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Psalm 51:6

Prophet Daniel too confirms wisdom comes from the Lord:

He changes the times and seasons; He removes kings and establishes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. Daniel 2:21

Matthew affirms that if we ask, it will be given:

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7

Now is there any reason not to ask for wisdom for ourselves?

Why have we fasted,’ they say,

Why have we humbled ourselves,

“Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please
and exploit all your workers.
Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife,
and in striking each other with wicked fists.

You cannot fast as you do today
and expect your voice to be heard on high.

Is this the kind of fast I have chosen,
only a day for people to humble themselves?

Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed
and for lying in sackcloth and ashes?

Is that what you call a fast,
a day acceptable to the Lord?

“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?

Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

When you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

Matthew 6:16-18

Thank you everyone who wish to join the 21 day fasting and praying suggestion.

First off, how to fast? Today's scripture has the answer as to what to do and what not to do.

To do: Humble yourself in God's sight

What NOT to do: Showing off to people that you are fasting - or a false show of humiliation.

As to what to pray for, let us start with a confession of our sins.

Daniel sets a great example in the scriptures below if you need a reference point:

So I turned my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and petition, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.

And I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed, “O, Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant of loving devotion to those who love Him and keep His commandments, we have sinned and done wrong. We have acted wickedly and rebelled. We have turned away from Your commandments and ordinances. We have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, leaders, and fathers, and to all the people of the land.

To You, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but this day we are covered with shame—the men of Judah, the people of Jerusalem, and all Israel near and far, in all the countries to which You have driven us because of our unfaithfulness to You. O LORD, we are covered with shame—our kings, our leaders, and our fathers—because we have sinned against You.

To the Lord our God belong compassion and forgiveness, even though we have rebelled against Him and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God to walk in His laws, which He set before us through His servants the prophets....

Daniel 9:3~10

Let us too start there, confessing every one of our sins. Sins in thoughts, actions, words, disobedience, etc. and confess them one by one at His feet.

Tomorrow we will learn what's next...

Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.

So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?”

And he said, “From childhood. And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.

And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”

So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”

Mark 9: 20-29

Is there any such "spirits" we are dealing with in our lives? Say you have tried everything you could think of and see no release? Maybe it is time to take it to Jesus in prayer and fasting.

You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.

In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:10-17

In today's scripture portion Paul is charging or encouraging Timothy to keep going in his ministry. Let us apply the words for our Christian walk today.

We too have seen the way of life, the purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings and what happened to many of God's ministers in our life times. We have seen, experienced or heard testimonies of persecutions of fellow believers. Even today there is great persecution in Afghanistan for the children of God who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

These should not discourage us but instead should charge us to move forward in our walk of faith. All the scriptures we have learnt from our childhood should be applied in practice and help us stay motivated.

Because, all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Amen!

Love you all in Christ Jesus. Stay blessed. Thank you for joining for Coffee with Jesus day after day. God bless you all!

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me. Psalm 138:7

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4

Christian life is not without struggle. There is no promise that there will be no troubles. But it is promised that God will sustain us through the troubles. He will preserve us. He will be with us. He will comfort us.

Shall we say amen?

God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

Happy September folks!

The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the LORD. Proverbs 21:31

Some trust in chariots and others in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. Psalm 20:7

Salvation belongs to the LORD Psalm 3:8

No king is saved by his vast army; no warrior is delivered by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for salvation; even its great strength cannot save. Surely the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His loving devotion. Psalm 33:16-18

If you find yourself less equipped for the task at hand, be assured with God's help you can do it! Even if you feel fully equipped without God's help you can't do it because victory belongs to the Lord!

He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Isaiah 40:29

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9

Blessed be the LORD my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle. Psalm 144:1

He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. Psalm 18:34

For by You I can run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall. Psalm 18:29

For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me… Psalm 44:6,7

And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. 1 Samuel 17:49

We all know very well the story of how young David killed the giant Goliath. If you recall David was untrained to advance against Goliath at that time and he only went in the name of the Lord and got victory. Though David got many more victories that followed he knew heart of heart his strength was the Lord. It was the Lord who trained him for war and taught his fingers for battle.

Isn't that true for us too? We find ourselves caught off guard and unprepared for, for many of life's events; yet with God's help we deal with it. Be it higher studies or debts or a huge project at work with the deadline fast approaching, we know we can do it with God's help and guidance and canceling. Praise the Lord.

Blessed is the people of whom this is true; blessed is the people whose God is the LORD. Psalm 144:15
