Listen, O daughter, consider and give ear: Forget your people and your father’s house. The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. Psalm 45:10-11
Happy Valentines Day everyone!
It is one day when the whole world pauses and talks about "love". As believers it is a wonderful chance to pause and exclaim over the love of our Lord and to renew our love vows to Him once again! In that process why not renew our love for our spouses too?!
Today's Scripture almost always reminds me of a similar Scripture addressed to the men: "...a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." (Ephesians 5:31)
Most marriages fail due to disobedience to these very instructions. The husband does not leave and cleave. The wife does not forget her people and her father's house. Some of us who have survived in spite of it made it so far only by pure grace.
This morning over the coffee table let us renew our love for our spouses. Like Apostle Paul writes in his letter to the Church in Philippians 3:13-14 "... Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal..." let us forget the past and focus toward the future, loving one another in Christ, just as He has loved us.
Let us recommit our vows in His presence this morning asking for forgiveness over the irritations and annoyance and disapproving comments we have had/made to our spouses lately. A heart is a precious thing but so often we trample it with our words.
Let us ask our Lord to fill us up to the rim and overflowing with His love so that we can pour into the hearts of our spouses so much more love than we are ever capable of. Let us learn to rejoice in His love so that we are forever satisfied with His unfailing love.
Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:7-8
