God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
... who (Jesus Christ) gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. Titus 2:14
As we remember the suffering of our Lord Jesus Christ today, even to the point of death and death on a cross, let us not forget that He actually gave Himself up - to be beaten, broke , spit at, humiliated and eventually to be killed.
The Lord who raised the dead, healed the sick, comforted the poor, here allowed Himself to be killed in such a humiliating way. Do you wonder why?
To give us life. Life eternal. Abounded. Praise the Lord.
This world and the pain that comes with it are all temporary. Our eternal joy awaits us beyond this life. All we need to do here and now is that accept what He gave us. He gave us His body, His blood, His life. Let us cherish this valuable gift given to us.
Amen.
