"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world" John 16:33
In John chapter 13 we read of the Last Supper - the Passover meal Jesus shared with His disciples. Immediately following that He washes their feet and goes on to give them specific instructions, preparing them for His impending suffering/departure, all the way thru' chapter 17. It seems like a continuous dialogue with no interruptions even for some narrations.
In all these Jesus did not promise them a smooth ride; in fact just the opposite - tribulations. But one thing He promises - peace!
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27
On hindsight we now know this came true. All His disciples went through extreme tribulations but endured it joyfully holding on to the peace offered by our Lord Jesus Christ.
This morning the same promise is given us. His Peace. Amidst the chaos around us.
Our prayers maybe ridiculed by the world, our friends might mock us for our faith, we can't even gather together to worship the Lord with our fellow brothers and sisters, we do not know when we will see our loved ones back home again... but through it all His peace prevails.
Amen!
