Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:17-18
Pentecost is a festival celebrated by the Israelites 50 days after the barley harvest. In the New Testament, it was on a day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was first manifested among the disciples.
Jesus's resurrection had given them a renewed spirit and a new hope. Yet they were unsure of what the future had in store for them.
On the day of Pentecost they were gathered in one place, when they experienced the infilling of the Holy Spirit - which is recorded by Luke in the Book of Acts, Chapter 2.
Since then millions of people have experienced the infilling of the Holy Spirit. According to statistics, between 1910 thru' 2010 alone more than 614 million people have experienced it - which is 4 times more than the population growth!
It does not matter what our 'label' is. God is not interested in our 'labels'. We could be baptist, methodist, evangelical, pentecost, non-denominational and everything in-between. But the Holy Spirit is very much in the works among us! Praise the Lord!
It is the Holy Spirit who convicts people of their sins. We cannot be a Christian without Holy Spirit. Whether we acknowledge Him or recognize Him or not, it is the Holy Spirit that leads us to salvation. Holy Spirit thereafter resides within us.
Baptism of the Holy Spirit however, is a different experience. This is a gift God has in store for us - for those who wants to receive it and asks for it, He freely gives it. The gift of the Holy Spirit enables us to sanctify ourselves continuously. This is a life long process. It is the Holy Spirit that makes us more like Jesus every day. This is what today's Scripture tells us.
At the start of the New Year it is a good idea to take inventory of our hearts' content. If there is any dross or filth or darkness in us, it is a good idea to get rid off it and be filled with a renewed infilling of the Holy Spirit. For the next couple of days let us discuss a little more in detail of the Holy Spirit. Please stay tuned!
Blessed Monday!
