Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets before you.

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its savor, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:11-16

Yesterday we saw that we will have trials in this world, but His peace should get us through it all. Today's scripture portion encourages us more on the same lines that in spite of our persecution we should be the salt and light to those around us.

What it means is that we can not or should not take their insults to heart. We should not mind their accusations and persecutions and mockery, but continue to show them God's love. We can't take it too personal folks, as it is our Lord Jesus Christ they reject and not necessarily us.

Easier said that done I am sure; but with God's help we can...
