Don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. James 4:4

Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. Matthew 12:30

We were happy to learn yesterday that Jesus is our friend. I am sure most of us take comfort in that.

Today's scripture takes us a little deeper on what it actually means to accept His friend request. The one (and only one) clause or condition is to deny the world.
It is not that hard if you think about it as after all the world hates us anyways. The scripture tells us that:

If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. John 15:19

"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money (world). Matthew 6:24

Clearly we can't be friends with both the world and God. We need to let go of one to follow the other.

The question is: what do you consider as the most valuable?

"How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal (world) is God, follow him." 1 Kings 18:21
