Pin It Now! "Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights." Habakkuk 3: 17-19

True, we all expect buds and blossoms and fruits and crops in our lives! All the time! In season and also out of season! We claim the promises, we maintain a positive attitude and we sort of get too carried away in our success sometimes as if it is our born rights.

But what happens when our expectant blessing gets delayed or worse yet, not come at all? Do we tend to apply a hard stop and turn away from the Lord? Is that what our faith is all about? Or can we sing like Prophet Habakkuk does: "Yet I will rejoice in the Lord!" and continue to trust in the Lord?

Of course it is God's desire to prosper us, but the question is: Would you still follow when prosperity is out of the equation. As long as our reason to follow Jesus Christ is not for mere worldly blessings, we will be happy irrespective of the yield. When life flourishes we will praise the Lord and when it does not, then too we will praise the Lord. Amen!

Let's keep this in our mind as we enjoy the rest of the day....

  1. One of my favourite Bible verses. Thanks for this meditation. It's unfortunately not a commonly expressed thought.
