Glad you could join us for some coffee with Jesus. I hope and pray that today's "coffee" is a blessing to you. May the good Lord provide you with the much needed grace for the day. Amen!
"Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him." 1 Samuel 1:17
We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests. Psalm 20:5
What strikes me most in these Scriptures is the goodness of heart from which such abundance of blessings flows. The first was Prophet Eli's response to Hannah crying and praying for a child.
The latter was a song written by King David possibly to bless his son or someone very significant to him, or maybe it was to be sung by the choir to him who was the king.
We all would love these blessings for us this morning. Fair enough! Why not wish the same blessing to someone else in need of a word of encouragement today?!
I believe it is an awesome idea to bless others which would then fill our hearts with an abundance of goodness as well.
Whoever believes in me (Jesus), as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him. John 7:38
What! We already completed one month in the new year?! Praise the Lord!
Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God. Psalm 146:5
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, Hope is:
to cherish a desire with anticipation (or)
to desire with expectation of obtainment (or)
to expect with confidence
We all have hopes - hope for betterment - hope for retirement - hope for a future. But more importantly do we have the hope of eternal life?
The Bible says, If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. (I Cor 15:19)
Let us not forget the ultimate reward - which is our salvation. Prophet Jeremiah writes, The LORD [is] my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. Lamentation 3:24
King David constantly sings about his hope in the Lord:
Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you. Psalm 39:7 (NLT) For you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth. Psalm 71:5 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God. Psalm 38:15
Can we sing the same today? What is our hope? Who is our hope on?
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
Have a hopeful (in the Lord) day folks :)
* These are the offerings you are to receive from them: gold, silver and bronze; blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen; goat hair; ram skins dyed red and hides of sea cows; acacia wood; olive oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense; and onyx stones and other gems to be mounted on the ephod and breastpiece. Exodus 25:3-7
* Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you. Exodus 25:9
* "Three cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms are to be on one branch, three on the next branch, and the same for all six branches extending from the lamp stand." Exodus 25:33
It makes me go 'wow!' every time I read thedetailed instructions God gave Moses about the Tabernacle, the lamp stand, the table and its accessories. How very specific including the measurements, color of the thread to use, from where to where, what design, then what metal to cover it with etc etc. I love it! I absolutely adore the decorative sense of God Almighty. The interest He takes on every single detail... isn't that amazing?!
You may ask what does it have to do with me?
Well, Apostle Paul asks in his letter to the Corinthians, "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?" (1 Corinthians 3:16).
Again in 2 Corinthians 6:16 we read, "For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people."
It is also true that God created our inmost being; He knit us together in our mother's womb. (Psalm 139:13) Every little detail of our body was designed and made by our God!
So let us stop worrying about our height and weight and just praise the Lord for His handiwork. Have a thankful Tuesday!
Continue to work out your salvation... Philippians 2:12
In order to understand this verse first we need to fully understand what is salvation. Thinkexist.com has a beautiful explanation which goes, "The redemption of man from the bondage of sin and liability to eternal death, and the conferring on him of everlasting happiness.
We as believers have experienced this salvation - the assurance that all our sins have been washed by His blood and that we are forever His. How do we continue to work out our salvation? Now that's the question.
We have the answer given to us in the following verses: Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe... Philippians 2:14,15
Amen! Let us do everything without complaining or arguing. We need to take an effort to continue to work out the salvation which we have received so gracefully. Shall we?
If you are not feeling up to going to church today, here's a reminder for you:
“If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath
and from doing as you please on my holy day,
if you call the Sabbath a delight
and the Lord’s holy day honorable,
and if you honor it by not going your own way
and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,
then you will find your joy in the Lord,
and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land
and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.”
The mouth of the Lord has spoken. Isaiah 58:13-14
It doesn't matter which day of the week we choose to gather to worship the Lord; whichever day it is, let us do it willingly. Then we will find our joy in the Lord.
Then the Lord God provided a vine and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort, and Jonah was very happy about the vine. Jonah 4:6
The book of Jonah is a very interesting book and I hope you have all read through it. If not please take your time one of these days to breeze through the four easy chapters.
Here's the summary to set the context: Jonah was asked to preach in Nineveh about the impending destruction to the city God was planning. He refuses to do it, leaves for Tarshish, gets thrown out into the stormy ocean, a big fish swallows him, he survives inside the belly of the fish for three days and night before finally being spit out. Now he visits Nineveh as how God had told him to. People of Nineveh including the king and the cattle everyone wear sackcloth and fast and pray asking God to relent from His fierce anger. When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened.
But Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry. He was not hesitant to let God know how very disappointed he was that he even wanted to die right then and there. If you think about it he had all the reasons to be angry, right? Wrong! That's what God intends to prove by teasing him with a little shade one day and removing it the next. Using that as an example God was able to explain to Jonah why he changed his mind about the hundred and twenty thousand people of Nineveh who could not tell their right hand from their left and the many cattle there. Though the chapter ends there I am sure Jonah was convinced of the reason and continued to serve the Lord, happily ever after...
Application: Like Jonah, we may think too high of ourselves at times and care more for our reputation than the will of God to be demonstrated in peoples lives. To us God asks the very same question today: “You have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?” Jonah 4:11
We were not punished according to our transgressions, why then do we expect others to be punished and not forgiven?! Freely we have received, let's freely give. (Matthew 10:8)
For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Isaiah 41:13
Don't know about you but I can blindly believe this verse without asking for any proof. I love the concept of our God holding our right hand. Clearly it shows how protective He is of us.
Let us repeat the verse, slightly altered: For you are the Lord, myGod, who takes hold of my right hand and says to me not to fear and that you will help me. Amen!
As if to reiterate the statement, in the very next verse He says: Do not be afraid, O worm Jacob, O little Israel, for I myself will help you,” declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 41:14
To sum it all up: Do not fear about anything. Just as He has promised He will help you! He Himself will help you!! Remember He is holding your right hand... Praise the Lord!
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 1 Corinthians 15:10
Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Romans 12:3
Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. 2 Corinthians 3:5
What we read in these Scriptures is the exact opposite of what we see and hear around us. The world defines self confidence as confidence in oneself or one's own abilities. But for us - the believers - the Lord must be our confidence!
Paul has set a very good example for us in his statements. Great King Solomon - the wisest ever lived has said: The Lord Is My Confidence. Proverbs 3:26. My favorite King David has sang, It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. Psalm 118:8
Can we too confirm the Lord indeed is our confidence?!
Do not imitate what is evil but what is good 3 John: 1:11
Here John writes to Gaius his dear friend, about Diotrephes - a bad example. We do come across several such bad examples in our lives. It is very important to take special care not to "become" a bad example ourselves.
Aren't we curious to know what Diotrephes did that made him a bad example. Let's see, my interpretations within parenthesis below...
* First of all, he loved to be first (the me, me, me syndrome - sounds familiar?) * He gossiped maliciously (talking ill of Pastors and other ministers doing the work of God) * He refused to welcome the brothers (not having to do anything with people from different denominations) * He also stopped those who wanted to welcome the brothers (discouraging friends who do...) * He put those who welcomed the brothers out of the church (worst, barring such friends from "our type" of gatherings)
Sadly we can immediately associate these characteristics of Diotrephes with some people we know... Let us analyze ourselves too to see if we fall through the crack anywhere...
Let us set a resolution right now not to imitate what is evil but only what is good! Shall we?
Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad! Psalm 14:7
Amen! I praise God for these wonderful promises this morning!
It does not say, "If the Lord restores.." but says with assurance "When the Lord restores...". So there is absolutely no room for doubt here. If any of you experience even the slightest trace of doubt, you must rebuke it in the name of the Lord. His promises are yes and amen!
In his letters to the Corinthians Apostle Paul writes about the same:
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 2 Corinthians 1:20-22
"Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him." Matthew 8:25
He commands the winds and water and they obey Him! Is it hard for Him to solve our needs? Is it difficult for Him to restore our fortunes? Is it beyond His abilities to make us rejoice and be glad?
Why then it is hard for us to still trust in Him completely? Why are we holding on to our heavy burden? Why not cast it all at His feet and walk free?!
Repeat this verse after me and claim it as your own this morning: Oh, my salvation would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores my fortunes, I will rejoice and be glad! Amen!
Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. Revelation 2:4
Since today's verse starts with 'Yet' let's read a few verses above that: Revelation 2:2-3: I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false.
All is well. All is good. We are okay - that's what we think.
But there is a complaint against us - that we have lost our first love... :(
What? Me? Is our first reaction. But if we sit down to think about it, sadly, we can all relate to that.
We are not as upbeat about spending time with the Lord. Not as keen on spreading the Gospel. Not as passionate about church gathering - as in the past.
Our love has gone cold - okay not really cold - but not hot either. This is bad - very bad.
In Revelation 3:16 it says, "Because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth."
What is the remedy? In the following verse it says: Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. Revelation 2:5
Let us repent and do the things we did at first.
Let us firstseek Him and His kingdom, shall we? Matthew 6:33
Verse of the day: "Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye" 7:2
Here's to share some extracts from different commentaries on this verse:
* Clarke's commentary on the Bible:
As the apple of thine eye - As the pupil of the eye, which is of such essential necessity to sight, and so easily injured.
* Gill's exposition says:
... the doctrine of Christ,... should be as dear to men as the apple of their eye, and as carefully preserved, that the least injury is not done to it; it should be kept inviolate
* Geneva Study Bible:
By this diversity of words, he means that nothing should be so dear to us as the word of God, nor that we look on anything more nor mind anything so much...
* Matthew Henry's concise commentary:
We must lay up God's commandments safely. Not only, Keep them, and you shall live; but, Keep them as those that cannot live without them. Those that blame strict and careful walking as needless and too precise, consider not that the law is to be kept as the apple of the eye; indeed the law in the heart is the eye of the soul. Let the word of God dwell in us, and so be written where it will be always at hand to be read. Thus we shall be kept from the fatal effects of our own passions, and the snares of Satan. Let God's word confirm our dread of sin, and resolutions against it.
Let's be careful not to tolerate the sins mentioned in the chapter. Surely, if we keep His commands we will be free from such trap.
"Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength." Nehemiah 8:10
Grieving makes one weak; rejoicing gives strength.
True, there have been circumstances that made it seem impossible to rejoice at times. But His grace had been sufficient; won't you agree? If not for that we would have succumbed to our grief and weakness. That is all the more reason to rejoice in the Lord!
We are also asked to share our blessings with the less fortunate among us - giving them a reason to rejoice in the Lord. Let us not forget that.
I'll repeat the Scripture again to let it sink in...
"Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."
Finally,
Let us not be just hearers of the Word; but doers as well. (James 1:22)
For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. Romans 2:13
You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table. Thus is the man blessed who fears the Lord. Psalm 128:2-4
In Genesis 3:16-19, we read of a somewhat contrasting scenario:
To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”
To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat of it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life...” I find it amazing how even the curse God gave man, was in fact a blessing in disguise. I am sure you will agree with me that having a job, being profitable by the toil of our hands, having children are all in fact blessings; no denying that!
Let us pause a moment this morning to acknowledge and appreciate the blessings He has showered on us. Let our hearts earn to Him with sincere gratitude.
Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Isaiah 55:2
We all run after things bigger, better, designer wear, gourmet meal, exotic vacations - but do these ever satisfy us? Sadly, never! We are only broke and exhausted at the end of the day.
There is however one thing that is truly satisfying - which is the joy of His salvation; and the only source it comes from is our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!
Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. John 6:27
On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine - the best of meats and the finest of wines. Isaiah 25:6 I (Jesus) am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. John 6:51
No harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. Psalm 91:10
Today's Scripture utters a blessing for our dwelling place; however it is conditional. Reading verses 9 &10 together we get the complete context: If you make the Most High your dwelling even the Lord, who is my refuge then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
Of course we want no harm to befall us nor any disaster to come near our tents; but the question is how to satisfy the condition - How to make the Most High our dwelling?
There is no better example than King David who often attests to having the Lord as his refuge:
Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. Psalm 71:3
Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Psalm 90:1
I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Psalm 91:2
O LORD; I say, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living." Psalm 142:5
Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: "The LORD's right hand has done mighty things! Psalm 118:15
Making the Most High our dwelling would therefore mean:
* Finding our solace in Him
* Relaxing at His feet
* Looking to Him for our protection & provision
* Attesting by word of mouth that the Lord indeed is our refuge
* Shouting His praises in our tents etc.
So, let me ask you this morning: Have you made the Lord Most High your dwelling yet? Great! Then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent! Go in peace!
Awake, north wind, and come, south wind! Blow on my garden, that its fragrance may spread abroad. Let my lover come into his garden and taste its choice fruits. Song of Solomon 4:16
Here we see the desperation of Shulamite to prepare her garden for her Lover. Are we preparing our gardens for our Christ? Do we have the fruits and fragrance that are desired by our Lord?
It is time we take inventory of our stocks and see if we have what it takes to be prepared for the coming of our Lord. If we bear fruits well and good; if not let us call in the winds from the North and the South to come blow on us so that we become fruit bearers.
The wind we need to desire is the Holy Spirit, who enables us to bear fruits. There is not much time left for Christ our Lover to return. We are in the End of Times. The coming of our Lord is at hand.
Not to threaten anyone but to awaken our hearts, let me use the same words John the Baptist used as he prepared the way for Christ:
The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
"I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire." Matthew 3:10-12
Amen! The ax is already at the roots! Our King's return is imminent! Let us get baptized in water and in Holy Spirit to bear much fruits for Him.
But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall. Malachi 4:2
What a wonderful God we serve! Do you revere His name this morning? Then this promise is yours today! The sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings! And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall! Amen!
I am sure all of us have seen the rising of the sun and the leaping of the calves released from the stalls, have we not? There is immense joy, health and power in both events. To know that we will leap like the calves and find healing under the sun of righteousness, it is equally joyful; is it not?!
For the rest of the day, let us repeat this verse to ourselves, to our situation, to our concerns, and more importantly let us continue to revere His name. Surely healing and leaping is sure to follow! Amen!
For those who would like to recollect rising of sun and leaping of calves, here's sharing some videos:
"If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the LORD, am your healer." Exodus 15:26
We are often worried and troubled by the news of sickness among our friends, family, church members, colleagues, community etc. Our hearts melt in fear when we have to wait for certain test results at the doctor's office. But these are unnecessary worries. If we worry the same way as a non-believers what difference does our faith make in us?
Instead of worrying over things beyond our control let us praise God for what we have - the joy of salvation, the hope of eternal life, that we still have breath, that we are able to move around and for everything that works fine in us that we often take for granted.
Even when we are diagnosed with some sickness, however life threatening it is, it does not help to worry. I am sorry if that sounds insensitive. But that is what the Scripture tells us.
Jesus said in Luke 12:25,26: "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?"
Only as long as we have the breath in our nostrils we can praise the Lord; so like King David let us make the most of our life praising the Lord: In Psalm 115:17,18 he says,"The dead do not praise the LORD, Nor do any who go down into silence; But as for us, we will bless the LORD from this time forth and forever. Praise the LORD!
God is our Healer! Whether He heals us for life or decides to take us home, no denying that He is our Healer. He paid the price for our sickness too on the cross along with our sins. Let us rebuke all fear, doubt, worry and sickness away from our dear ones and get protection under His wings. Let us not take things for granted but remember to praise Him for the countless blessings in our lives.
If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. Romans 14:8
Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name be the glory. Psalm 115:1
There appears to be a hurry in King David's words here; as if he had the slightest inclination to take some pride but immediately decided against it.
Or it could be that someone went on and on praising the king and he gives all that glory to God Himself. Either way we can understand that his focus was on giving glory to God.
Is that our focus too? When someone praises us for something, do we take it with a "thank you" or do we say, "it's all because of the Lord" thus giving glory to God's name?
When the slightest pride shows up on our accomplishment do we feed on it or rush to eliminate the pride and give glory to God alone?
How often do we say, "Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name be the glory..."?
I guess for some of us it will have to be a conscious effort but can we try?
When completeness comes, what is in part disappears. I Corinthians 13:10 The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. Psalm 34:10 The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. Psalm 23:1 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10
Praise the Lord! For those who are gathered around this virtual coffee table, there are beautiful promises shared this morning. These are promises from the Lord God Almighty, delivered to us by the Holy Spirit. They are yeah and amen!
Anyone lacking anything among us, having only in part or incomplete, be assured the Lord is promising us fullness, completeness, an abundant life! Amen!
Keep repeating these Scriptures to yourself rest of the day in all areas of incompleteness. Gain victory by claiming His words!
* My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek. Psalm 27:8 * I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Psalm 16:8 * Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. Psalm 105:4
King David sets us a good example of seeking the Lord continually, not just on Sundays's not just on mornings but continually - all the days of the week, every hour of each day, every second of each hour...
What does it mean to seek?
The following definitions are given in the dictionary:
1. Attempt to find (something)
2. Attempt or desire to obtain or achieve (something)
3. Ask for (something) from someone
4. Search for and find someone or something
5. Go to (a place)
Now, how do we seek the Lord?
Based on the definition of the word 'seek' we can say,
1. Find out more of the Lord
2. Desire more time with the Lord
3. Pray
4. Search the Scriptures more for hidden treasures.
5. Go to His feet more often.
The Scripture assures, those who seek Him will find Him... (Proverbs 8:17)
Hope you will start seeking from now on... Let's start on it right away!
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18-19
For some of us gathered here this morning, things of past is where our heart is at. Like the Israelites we keep referring to our Egypt. Like Lot we keep turning back at our Sodom. This is sure a distraction in our spiritual walk. We can not enjoy the freedom and full benefits of God's leading as long as we cling on to things of past.
Alright, childhood was carefree. Younger days were more fun. Old was gold. But we have to move on! We can't appreciate what is in store for us if we are not looking forward to the life ahead.
I am reminded of a beautiful childhood chorus we sang at Sunday School which goes:
Move on brothers!
Move on sisters!
This is a moving day.
Move a little forward
Take your stand with Jesus
Move on brother move on...
So, let us move on today; forgetting the former things and not dwelling on the past. God is doing a new thing in us,among us. He is making a way in our wilderness and streams in our wastelands. Let us be expectant of that. Praise the Lord!
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. Psalm 42:1
Here's sharing an extract from the Treasury of David which explains this Scripture in such depth.
As after a long drought the poor fainting hind longs for the streams, or rather as the hunted hart instinctively seeks after the river to lave its smoking flanks and to escape the dogs, even so my weary, persecuted soul pants after the Lord my God.
Debarred from public worship, David was heartsick. Ease he did not seek, honor he did not covet, but the enjoyment of communion with God was an urgent need of his soul; he viewed it not merely as the sweetest of all luxuries, but as an absolute necessity, like water to a stag.
Like the parched traveler in the wilderness, whose skin bottle is empty, and who finds the wells dry, he must drink or die - he must have his God or faint. His soul, his very self, his deepest life, was insatiable for a sense of the divine presence. As the hart brays so his soul prays.
Dear reader, dost thou know what this is, by personally having felt the same? It is a sweet bitterness. The next best thing to living in the light of the Lord's love is to be unhappy till we have it, and to pant hourly after it - hourly, did I say?
Thirst is a perpetual appetite, and not to be forgotten, and even thus continual is the heart's longing after God. When it is as natural for us to long for God as for an animal to thirst, it is well with our souls, however painful our feelings.
We may learn from this verse that the eagerness of our desires may be pleaded with God, and the more so, because there are special promises for the importunate and fervent.
That being said, let me ask you: Did you drink your fill today?!
Even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you. Zechariah 9:12
Amen! What a beautiful promise from the Lord for us this morning! I am so glad for all of you who didn't miss it over the weekend. May this very promise come true in each one of our lives.
In Isaiah we read, "Instead of their shame my people will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace they will rejoice in their inheritance; and so they will inherit a double portion in their land, and everlasting joy will be theirs." Isaiah 61:7
Amen! Such powerful promises we have heard this morning over the coffee table. Let us pause, take a moment to let it sink in! Let us proclaim the promise by our mouth; please repeat this after me:
"Instead of my shame I will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace I will rejoice in my inheritance; and so I will inherit a double portion in my land, and everlasting joy will be mine."
One more time:
"Instead of my shame I will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace I will rejoice in my inheritance; and so I will inherit a double portion in my land, and everlasting joy will be mine."
The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, without painful toil for it. Proverbs 10:22 Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the LORD blessed him. The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy. Genesis 26:12-13 Remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth... Deuteronomy 8:18
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7
Amen! Precious blessings this morning!
Let us be careful not to make it our priority to accrue wealth. Our priority or primary focus in this life is to do the will of God. Whether we seek after or not wealth will follow, as long as we first seek Him - with all our heart.
Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6
"I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture." John 10:9
What does it really mean that Jesus is the way, truth & life?
In Genesis 3rd chapter where we read of the fall of man, it ends with this Scripture: After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life. Genesis 3:24
The Lord Jesus's sacrifice on the cross has once again opened this way to the tree of life! Amen!
Entering through this way (salvation) we now have access to the tree of life, which in turn gives us eternal life and we will once again rejoice in the presence of our Father God! Amen!
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13-14
One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate and go out. Their king will pass through before them, the LORD at their head. Micah 2:13 Happy New Year everyone!
Let us read the verse once again slightly differently - emphasizing the words in bold, "One who breaks open the way will go up before me; I will break through the gate and go out. My king will pass through before me, the Lord at my head.
Let's keep praying this verse against all the "closed doors" in our lives this year. Let us allow our Lord Jesus Christ to take the lead in all areas of our lives. He is the King of all kings; the Lord of all lords; there is absolutely no super power over Him. Praise the Lord! Just let Him lead.
When our King takes the lead before us, He will break open the way for us. Amen!
If you believed, you would see the glory of God! If only we believed...
Welcome! As you sit down to enjoy your steaming cup of coffee or tea or chocolate or whatever, let us also enjoy the communion with Jesus one-on-one. Imagine He has joined you across your kitchen table and having a little chit-chat with you...
Remember more than you, Jesus is looking forward to this time alone with you... My prayer is that each one of you find your moment enjoyable with the Lord.
It's not just coffee time; It's coffee with Jesus time! Enjoy and God bless!
