“Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’ “In tithes and offerings. Malachi 3:8

Yesterday we saw that as long as we hold on to what is due unto the Lord, we can not face our enemies. I had briefly touched on the fact that what that is holy unto the Lord that we might still be holding back could be the tithe. Let us take a closer look at it today...

The idea is to try and find answers to some very basic questions we might have - based on the Scriptures - NOT what "I think" nor what "I heard" nor what "it could be".

Before we begin I want to clarify that several Scriptures mention the third year as 'the year of tithing'. Let us not use that against tithing every year. Since we 'reap the seed of the crops' every year, it is only fair to give a tenth of that to the Lord every year not just the third year.

What is tithing?
All the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD. Leviticus 27:30

What we can use it for?
* When you have finished setting aside a tenth of all your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, you shall give it to the Levite, the alien, the fatherless and the widow, so that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied. Deuteronomy 26:12

* Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the LORD your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the LORD your God always. Deuteronomy 14:23

What happens when we obey?
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. Malachi 3:10

What happens when we do not obey?
"Go, consecrate the people. Tell them, 'Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow; for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: That which is devoted is among you, O Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove it. Joshua 7:13

If you have more questions bring it on; we will discuss it over Coffee with Jesus! God bless!

Malachi 3:7 (KJV) “Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ORDINANCES, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?”

    ORDINANCES NAILED TO THE CROSS:
Colossians 2:14 (KJV) “Blotting out the handwriting of ORDINANCES that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;”

    NO CURSE TODAY:
Galatians 3:13 “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us…”

WE ARE ALREADY BLESSED WITH ALL SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS
Ephesians 1:3 (KJV) “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:”

The teaching of tithing on one's income is nothing but a fraud. The Biblical tithe was always on God's miracles and never on man's income.

    Why Tighth :

Numbers 18 : 21 , “ Look, I have given the Levites every tenth in Israel as an inheritance in return for the work they do …..”

In New Testament, Apostle Paul emphasizes the same in the following passages

Hebrew 7 : 5 , “ The sons of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment according to the law to collect a tength from the people….”

Galatians 6 : 6 , “ The one who is taught the message must share his good with the teacher”

I Corinthians 9 : 11 , “ If have sown spiritual things for you , is it too much if we reap material things from you? “

    Jesus has told anything…?

Luke 11 : 42 , & Mathew 23 : 23 , “ But woe to you pharises ! you give a tenth of mint, rue, and every kind of herb, and you bypass justice and love of God. THESE THINGS YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT NEGLECTING THE OTHERS”.

Mark 12 : 17, Luke 20:25 , “ …He told them , Give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and TO GOD THE THINGS THAT ARE GOD’S “

Leviticus 27 : 30, “ Every tength of the land’s produce , grain from the soil or fruit from the trees belongs to the lord: IT IS HOLY TO THE LORD”

Jesus said God’s things to be given to God. Here Bible teaches Tighth is God’s one.

So I feel, we have to pay tight in all our Income.

In Luke 11:42 and Matthew 23:23 Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees and Scribes who were still under the tithing laws. Of course they ought to tithe. They were REQUIRED to IF they had any increase from the SEED - FOOD. But they were lawyers and teachers and Jesus did NOT tell them they ought to tithe on their INCOME.

As far as Give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and TO GOD THE THINGS THAT ARE GOD’S.....

The coin had the IMAGE of Caesar on it, so use it to pay Caesar's tax. WE were made in God's image, so WE give OURSELVES to God. Nothing to do with tithing.

YOU quoted Numbers 18 where God said He gave the tithe to the Levites. Now, show me where God ever said you have His permission to take the tithe to the church.

The Biblical tithe was ALWAYS on God's miracles (FOOD from crops and animals) and NEVER on money or man's income.

Thank you Gary and Anonymous for sharing your thoughts on tithing. Few more people have shared their views via email which I have posted as a separate post by itself (since it seems too long for the comments section). Please check it out by clicking here...

  5. I dont feel any difference between Food from Crops & animals & Money. The concept is we have to give tithe in our Income. It may be money / food or some things else. On those days , people were shepherds , hence they offered sheep as tithe. Is it right only the people those who are reaping has to give tithe.?

Gen 14 : 20,..... Abram gave him a tength of everything...".

So i feel , we have to do this

  6. Gary Arnold Says:

There is a big difference between food from crops and animals and INCOME from the sale or barter-exchange of the crops and animals.

In order to understand the Biblical tithe, you have to fully understand the difference between assets, income, and income-producing assets.

Since money was common during the days of the Biblical tithe, and God didn't specify money, adding money is adding to God's Word.

It amazes me how some feel that they have to tithe, yet there is no scripture anywhere in God's Word where God ever commanded anyone to tithe on their income.

How can it be any cleaer?

Those who tithe because they feel it is required are sinning, and have fallen from grace.

It's a real shame how Church goers have been lied to since 1870 regarding the tithe. Pastors are leading their flock away from Christ instead of to Him.
