This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to be
without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we
confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and
purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have
not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our
lives. 1 John 1:5-10
Sin is anything that separates us from God. The Scripture instructs us to flee from the very appearance of evil(sin). However we downplay sin most of the time.
In the long run sin becomes acceptable to us, we become ignorant of the impact of sin, it weakens our relationships with God, our family and everyone else we come across.
Sin is not just what we do; it is also what we don't do. If you think about it lying is sin, jealousy is sin; and so are not praying, not loving, not giving etc.
We all have sinned. We all do sin. Let us not deny our sins but confess and find mercy.
So to paraphrase today's Scripture:
God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we too walk in the light, as He is in the light, we will have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. Amen!
