Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you." Isaiah 60:1
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
Today's portion of the Scripture calls us to be the light of the world. Interesting. This rises few questions; let's look for answers from within the Scriptures itself.
Why should we be the light of the world?
So that others will see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
How to be the light of the world?
* Good eyes: “No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. “The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness. “Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness. “If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays.” Luke 11:33-36
* God's Word: Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105
* God's Commandments & Laws: When you go, it shall lead you; when you sleep, it shall keep you; and when you wake, it shall talk with you. For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life. Proverbs 6:22-23
How to gain good eyes?
* Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Proverbs 4:25
* My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways. Proverbs 23:26
