Pin It Now! Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. James 5:17-18

Few days ago we had read about the Elijah incident James is referring to in his preaching. What James is trying to emphasize here is the power of prayer. Elijah's prayer stopped the rain for 3 1/2 years and started the rain 3 1/2 years later. How powerful the prayer must have been?!

Bible mentions his exact words as he prayed for it to rain again, here we go: "Answer me, O Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

These are indeed very simple words, not eloborate in any form. However I believe the prayer was answered instantly because of what he stood for and not just his mere words.

Quick question: Did you pray today? True, we are getting ready to go to Church. But I don't think that is an excuse to not pray. As I write this, I am guilty myself.

Let us surrender ourselves to God in prayer so that the heavens give rain and the earth produce its crops. Enjoy the 'Son'day!

THOUGHTS OF MINE: The reason some of us are such poor examples of Christianity is that we have failed to recognize that Christ is almighty. We have Christian attributes and experiences, but there is no abandonment or surrender to Jesus Christ. When we get into difficult circumstances, we impoverish His ministry by saying, “Of course, He can’t do anything about this.” We struggle to reach the bottom of our own water well, trying to get water for ourselves. Beware of sitting back, and saying, “It can’t be done.” You will know it can be done if you will look to Jesus. The well of your incompleteness runs deep, but make the effort to look away from yourself and to look toward Him.
