But first make a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. I Kings 17:13

In the book of I Kings we read an account of how God fed Elijah during the famine in the land. God commands the ravens to feed him bread and meat twice a day and he drank from the brook nearby.

Later when the brook too dries up the Lord suggests he goes to Zarephath where he had commanded a poor widow to take care of him. Please read from verse 7 for today's context by clicking here.

Elijah asks the lady to make him a cake to which she responds that she has very little flour and only the bare minimum oil to make one bread for her and her little son, after which they would probably die of hunger.

That's when Elijah says,  “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord gives rain on the land.’”

Did she do it? Yes! Was she blessed as per Elijah's prophecy? Yes! Yes!!

So then that's what we ought to do. Let's first give our little to the Lord trusting in Him to feed us through the famine. You know what you need to give, don't you?!
